SJB Students win writing contests

St. John Bosco Academy is proud to announce that four students won prizes in the recent VFW writing and speaking contests. The VFW holds the competition each year for students throughout the area. Students in grades 6-8 participate in the Patriot's Pen essay contest and students in 9-12 compete in the Voice of Democracy speech contest. The top three in each contest are awarded prizes, with the 1st place winner's entry sent to the state level for further competition.

For the Patriot's Pen contest, 1st place went to 8th grade student Noelle Chmelik, and 2nd place to Rachel Sonnen. Juniors Jade Prigge and Erin Wassmuth placed 2nd and 3rd respectively, in the Voice of Democracy contest. Dale McElroy from the VFW awarded prizes at the school today which included a trophy, certificate and cash prizes for 1st and 2nd place winners. Noelle's 1st place essay has been forwarded to the state level competition.
